We have a pay-per-view (PPV) card tonight (Saturday, April 9, 2022), UFC 273, that makes me feel things I haven’t felt in a long time about a highly anticipated event. It’s a… how to say… thirst for violence? And the conductor of the UFC 273 train of violence is the seemingly unstoppable and undefeated (10-0) force known as Khamzat Chimaev.
The daring Chechnya native burst onto the scene in as dominant a fashion as the sport has ever seen in 2020, earning three straight stoppage wins in just two months. Then, after recovering from a career-threatening case of COVID-19, “Borz” came out and mopped the floor with top-ranked contender Li Jingliang at UFC 267 in September 2021 (see the highlights).
And, with a win tonight over No. 2 seed contender and former 170-pound title challenger Gilbert Burns, Khamzat could very well be the next welterweight title challenger by this time tomorrow. If nothing else, he’ll be given an incredible opportunity to be featured on ABC against Colby Covington later this year.
Meanwhile, in the PPV main event of UFC 273, which will take place inside the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., will feature a featherweight title showdown between the seemingly unstoppable champion , Alexander Volkanovski, and a man nicknamed “The Korean Zombie”.
If this sentence was the first sentence you read about mixed martial arts (MMA), then you’re putting $70 on this PPV and having a great time.
But, what if I told you there’s a rematch of a fight that saw the then-champion illegally kneel someone in the dome and then lose his title because of it. Such is the case with the co-main event of UFC 273 as Petr Yan seeks to unify his interim title with lineal champion Aljamain Sterling.
You’re interested…and you’re potentially invested in it.
If not – or if you can’t (or don’t want to) shell out $70, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. We’ll be calling every moment of the UFC 273 PPV main card on our Youtube channel LIVE tonight at 10 p.m. ET, bringing you as close to Jacksonville as possible from our New Jersey-based studio (embedded video player above for your convenience).
Let’s do the thing, gang.
