The FedEx Cup qualifiers have finally arrived and the players have arrived at TPC Southwind for the St. Jude Championship, which kicked off on Thursday. Si Woo Kim drilled from 167 yards down the 18th fairway for Eagle to sign for a 62 and share the lead with JJ Spaun heading into Friday’s second round.

The site of a golf world championship in recent years and a regular PGA Tour event before that, it has since been added to the playoff schedule as it hosts 121 players on its course.

Daniel Berger, Lanto Griffin and Nate Lashley are still nursing injuries. As such, they will be absent from the playoff kickoff, much like Tommy Fleetwood, who is taking time off to spend time with his family. Although their names aren’t on the court, the best in the world are as Scottie Scheffler enters the playoffs atop the FedEx Cup standings thanks to his torrid spring.

Leading by 1,221 points over his closest pursuer, Cameron Smith, the world No. 1 separated himself from the pack thanks to his victory in the Masters and three other titles in the regular season. Despite the substantial margin, a single tournament could see anyone in the top 15 take first place. The winner of the St. Jude Championship, for example, will receive 2,000 FedEx Cup points, up from 500 in the regular season.

With the best names in the game jostling for position ahead of the Tour Championship, No. 125 Rickie Fowler is just hoping to make it to next week. As the field shrinks to 70 players for the BMW Championship, those outside the cutoff point need a little magic to continue their seasons.
