Send a shoebox full of love this Christmas

Packing a shoebox full of goodies is a convenient way for you to impact children around the world.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international humanitarian organization. The gift-filled shoeboxes are sent to local partners around the world who use them as a way to reach children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

After receiving shoeboxes full of gifts, many children are invited to participate in The Greatest Journey discipleship program, and millions of children each year make the decision to follow Christ.

In 2021, Australia and New Zealand sent 210,182 shoeboxes to Cambodia, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Madagascar, Nauru and Papua New Guinea. Globally, more than 10.5 million shoe boxes have been collected and sent to over 100 countries and territories.

96five listeners expressed their generosity last year by providing a record number of shoeboxes filled with gifts for Samaritan’s Purse to distribute overseas. At the end of October, more than 1,340 shoe boxes were dropped off at our studios.

96five is proud to partner with Operation Christmas Child and once again act as a drop off location.

You can help children like Gladys

Gladys, nine years old, lives in Benin, West Africa. She smiles as she recounts the day she received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox at her local church. Special items inside included a neatly folded blanket placed amid school supplies, a flashlight her father needed, and other valuables. Opening the shoebox gift was like opening a new chapter in life for her and her family.

Gladys recounts the storm in her heart over the year leading up to the day she received her shoebox. She often felt lonely and even isolated, and these emotions surfaced inside her home during battles with her parents and siblings, which created even more distance from the people who loved her.

Gladys struggled to conceive of an all-powerful God who could meet all of her needs, including the peace she longed for in her heart.

These are important truths that Gladys learned the afternoon of the Operation Christmas Child outreach event. She was surprised to receive her very own shoebox, a gesture of love and generosity from around the world that opened her heart to God and his kingdom.

Benin’s proud history as a kingdom is well known to elementary school children in Benin, which is why the idea of the Kingdom of God immediately caught Gladys’ attention during the awareness event.

“They talked about the Kingdom of God,” Gladys recounted. “I understood then that God has a kingdom. He invites me into His Kingdom. And I received it in my heart.
