Sam McClure will return to Melbourne 3AW as the inaugural host of 3AW’s Wide World of Sports radio show.
McClure will be joined by a rotating roster of sports and sports commentators, details of which will be announced in the coming weeks.
The program is scheduled to start on Wednesday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m.
Stephen Beers, Station Manager 3AW, said: “We are delighted to have Sam join us at 3AW where his career began as we look forward to a new era of sports coverage with Wide World of Sports. We would also like to thank Gerard Healy for his 30-year contribution as co-host of Sportsday.
Sam McClure will return to where he began his media career at 3AW as a broadcast assistant in 2011, before becoming a reporter and regular contributor to the Sportsday programme.
In 2017, he joined the SEN radio station as a reporter on the breakfast show. McClure has also worked as a football reporter for the 7Network, sports reporter for The Age, and in 2020 he joined the Footy Classified program on the 9Network.
McClure said, “I grew up with 3AW being the only station my family listened to. When I started working there I was a teenager buying coffees for hosts on outside shows. To be back, in your thirties, hosting Wide World of Sports is very special.
The launch of the program will usher in a new era in sports with local versions of the Wide World of Sports radio program airing nationwide on 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR.
Ash Earnshaw, Nine’s Director of Sales, Total Audio, said, “Expanding the Wide World of Sports superbrand provides an exciting opportunity for marketers to reach this highly targeted and engaged group of listeners across the country.
“It will be bolstered by the legendary television properties of Wide World of Sports and allow our team to sell television and audio together.”
Marc Levy will continue to host the program on 2GB while Pierre Psaltis stays as host in Brisbane. A host for Perth will be announced soon.
