Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise is already 70% sold out

Royal Caribbean caused a stir with the recent announcement of its first-ever global cruise, a 274-night mega-sail visiting 65 countries and 150 destinations across seven continents.

The ‘Ultimate World Cruise’ on Serenade of the Seas was announced on October 20. The 2,476-passenger vessel will make a round trip from Miami, departing December 10, 2023 and returning September 10, 2024.

It’s two years away, and you might think Royal Caribbean figured it took a while to sell a cruise with fares starting at $ 60,000 and going all the way into the hundreds of thousands.

But that’s not what happened, as Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley enthusiastically explained at last week’s quarterly earnings conference with analysts. financial.

“I have to intervene, Jamie. Jamie, I have to jump in, ”Bayley said, interrupting a question from an analyst. “We launched World Cruise with Royal Caribbean International literally about 10 days ago and have only made it available to 16 million loyal members. And in seven days, we had 70 percent booked.

The average price for a balcony room on the cruise is $ 75,000, said Bayley, and the Royal Suite, the best accommodation on Serenade, went for $ 760,000. Reservations included non-refundable deposits.

“Even we have been surprised by the incredible response from our loyal members,” said Bayley, adding that the success is indicative of the pent-up demand for cruises globally after the long pandemic hiatus.

When announcing the ambitious nine-month trip, which includes 57 places Royal Caribbean has never visited before, Bayley called it “the world cruise of world cruises.”

“Today more than ever, people have decided to travel the world and make up for lost time. To travelers wondering where they should go next, we say everywhere, ”Bayley said.
