Radio station Alt 105.3 is renamed Dave FM – and we have questions

Audacy announced on Friday that she would rename longtime alternative rock station Alt 105.3 KITS to something called Dave FM.

The announcement was made on 105.3’s Twitter account: “Hello. My name is Dave FM. I live in San Francisco, Calif. Totally Random Radio is what I do.”

It’s not entirely clear what “totally random radio” implies, but according to a statement sent to Radio preview, lead artists include “Prince, Pat Benatar, The Cure, Journey, Nirvana, Huey Lewis and more.”

“The station will have an extensive music library of the best hits from several genres and decades,” the statement said.

Audacy, owner of the station, did not immediately respond to SFGATE’s request for comment, leaving us with more questions than answers.

The first song the station aired as Dave FM was “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N ‘Roses.

The station has been renamed several times before in recent memory. The station started as KCBO in 1959 and changed letters and ownership several times during the 2000s.

In 2017, the station announced that it would merge with Entercom, renamed “Alt 105.3”. Earlier this year, Entercom changed its name – do you feel a theme here? – like Audacy, who remains the owner.

“Dave FM is an opportunity for us to provide our audience with a station that encompasses a wide range of musical genres, full of recognizable successes over decades,” said Stacey Kauffman, Regional Vice President and Market Director of Audacy San Francisco, in a statement. . “We hope this station will be able to offer listeners’ favorites every day, whatever their tastes.”
