Paula’s Kitchen closed due to ‘global economic pressures’

Food producer’s announcement met with sadness

An artisanal food producer from the Isle of Man says she is hanging up her apron due to ‘global economic pressures’.

Paula Garland has announced that her business – Paula’s Kitchen – will be closing on Friday August 12.

The company specialized in gluten, wheat, refined sugar, dairy and additive free products and operated out of South Quay in Douglas.

Paula described the past six years of running the family business as “incredible” and thanked the dealers, suppliers and customers who have supported her.

The announcement was greeted with sadness by other businesses on the island.

Robinson’s Fresh Foods says it is ‘truly devastated’ describing the products as ‘incredible’ – the government is being asked to offer ‘support’ and be more proactive in helping to keep small suppliers in business.

EVF said it “fully understood” the decision given the “constant cost pressures” everyone is under.

He also called on the Department for Environment, Food and Agriculture to offer more support to local family businesses to ‘prevent further closures’.
