#Pack9 opens the ACC Championship on Tuesday


RALEIGH- NC State Baseball (33-20, 14-15 ACC) begins the playoffs Tuesday afternoon at the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship, to be held at Truist Field, home of the White Sox’ AAA affiliate. of Chicago, Charlotte Knights, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Wolfpack, who are the No. 10 seed, will face third seed Miami (39-16, 20-10 ACC) and sixth seed Wake Forest (39-16-1, 15-14-1 ACC) in ‘Pool C’ for the pool-play portion of the championship.

NC State will face the Demon Deacons on Tuesday, May 24 at 3 p.m. and are scheduled to face the Hurricanes on Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m. in ‘Pool C’. Wake Forest and Miami face off on Friday, May 27 at 3 p.m., and the team with the better record will move on to the weekend.

If the teams are tied after the end of pool play, the team with the highest seed in the pool will advance to the semi-finals.


Regional sports networks across the conference footprint and across the country will broadcast all 12 games Tuesday through Friday. Saturday’s semifinals will be broadcast live on the ACC Network, while Sunday’s championship game at noon will be televised nationally by ESPN2. All games will also be available through ACC Network Extra.

Live stats will be available on StatBroadcast.com and there will be a radio show on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network app, with Andrew Sanders on call all week.

The 2022 season marks the 12th straight year the Wolfpack has earned a berth in the conference tournament, and since 1980, it has only missed the tournament once.

Last year in the ACC Championship, NC State managed to clinch a berth in the title game with a 3-2 win over Pittsburgh in the pool and an 8-1 win over Georgia Tech in the semifinals. It was the team’s first appearance in a tournament final since 2015, but the Pack were unsuccessful, 1-0, at defending champion Duke.

NC State has won five ACC championships in program history, the last in 1992.

After a sensational first season with the Wolfpack, Tommy White was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, as announced by the league office Monday morning.

He became the fourth player on the program to earn the honor and is the first since 2018 to do so when Patrick Bailey was named ACC Freshman of the Year.

He was also named to the All-ACC First Team and ACC All-Freshman Team, while LuJames Groover earned All-ACC Second Team honors and Devonte Brown and Chris Villaman were All-ACC Third Team tabs.

It was the first career all-conference honor for Brown, Villaman and White, while for Groover it was his first as a member of the Pack as he earned All-CUSA honors the last year in Charlotte.

Tuesday will be the fourth straight game the Wolfpack will face the Demon Deacons, as the teams met last week May 19-21 in Raleigh for a three-game series to close out the regular season. The Demon Deacons picked up 8-2, 6-2, and 5-0 wins to sweep the Wolfpack.

Additionally, this will be the 193rd meeting between the programs as the Pack leads the all-time series, 125-66-1.

The last time the teams met in the ACC Championship was on May 23, 2019, at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina, and the pack won a 6-5 comeback thriller to stand qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.

In the ACC Championship, NC State and Wake Forest have met 13 times, and it was a tightly contested game as the field leads, 7-6.

Wednesday will be the 58th meeting between NC State and Miami as the Hurricanes lead the all-time series, 37-20. Additionally, this will be the seventh time the teams have met in the ACC Championship as the pack holds a 5-1 record in postseason game history.

The last time the teams met was March 5-7, 2021 in Raleigh at Doak Field in Dail Park, and despite NC State opening the series with an 11-5 victory, the Hurricanes have managed to pull off a pair of 6-4 wins. in the last two games to win the series.

The last time they met in the ACC Championship was May 26, 2016, at DBAP in Durham, and Miami made a late three-run push in the final inning to come away with a victory of 8-7.

If the Pack reaches the weekend, they will face the winner of ‘Pool B’ on Saturday May 28 at 5 p.m., and the championship match will take place on Sunday May 29 at 12 p.m.
