Mrs. Blanch (Godsey) Gillis – WRBI Radio


Mrs. Blanch (Godsey) Gillis, age 95, of Bloomington, Indiana, formerly of Switzerland County, Indiana, came into this life on February 28, 1927, at Hazard, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Sherman and Laura (Barnett) Godsey. She grew up in Hazard, Ky., where she attended school. On December 15, 1951, Blanch was married to McKelvie Stewart, Sr. in Richmond, Indiana. This union was blessed with two children, McKelvie and Judy. McKelvie and Blanch shared nearly 24 years of marriage together until his death on September 18, 1975. Blanch was then united in marriage to Carl J. Gillis on December 22, 1995. Carl died on November 20, 1999. Blanch was employed for Ball Brother Glass Company in Muncie, Indiana for ten years. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed gardening and renovating furniture in her spare time. Blanch was a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church near Pleasant, Indiana. Blanch resided for several years in the Switzerland County community and later moved to Bloomington, Indiana, where she had resided for nearly eight years. Blanch died at 9:02 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the Hearthstone Health Campus in Bloomington, Indiana.

Blanch is survived by his son, McKelvie “Mac” Stewart, Jr. and his wife, Robin of Anna, Texas; her daughter, Judy Ann Morris and her husband, David of Spencer, IN; his grandchildren, Chelsea McCarty and her husband, Nik, Blake Stewart and his wife, Erin, Kyle Stewart and his wife, Raquel, Brent Stewart and his wife, LaCreta, Summer Beckwith and his husband, Freeman, Craig Stewart and his wife , Lisa and Krista Utsler and her husband, Ryan; his great-grandchildren, Bailey, Paisley, Cash, Lola, Greyson, Zoey, Alice, Gabe, Nik, Kade and Madison; his sisters, Mary Belew of Morning View, KY, Betty Young of Osgood and his several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Sherman and Laura (Barnett) Godsey; her husband, Carl J. Gillis, died November 20, 1999; his sisters, Reda Bush, Hazel Chilton, Jan Schwallie, Marie Shoemaker, Jean Godsey and Jessie Haney and his brothers, Jimmie Roger Godsey, Sherman B. “Bob” Godsey and Billy R. Godsey.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison, Indiana.
