Mr. Ronald Edwin Christman, age 79, of Bennington, Indiana, came into this life on March 11, 1943 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He was the beloved son of the late Basil William and Agnes Maude (Herring) Christman. He grew up in Switzerland County, Indiana and attended Switzerland County High School. Ronald married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Ann Mathews, on June 15, 1962, at Braytown Christian Church. This happy union of over 59 years of marriage has been blessed with three children, David, Melissa and Andy. Ronald was briefly employed as a truck driver for the county highway department of Switzerland. Ronald has worked his entire life in the Switzerland County community. He was a member of the Coffee Creek Conservation Club, Amateur Trap Shooting Association, Switzerland County Tractor Pullers, National Rifle Association, and Golden Eagles Motorcycle Club. He was a former member of the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department and the United Farmers Association. Ronald received the Conservation Farmed of the Year award on March 25, 2011 from the County Soil and Water Conservation District of Switzerland. During his first years of life, Ronald enjoyed riding motorcycles with his wife and traveling all over the states. Trap shooting was a big part of his life and he shared his love of shooting with his wife, children and grandchildren. Ronald also traveled throughout the region beginning with smaller shoots that led to attending the Indiana State Trap Shooters Association tournament. He won the Indiana State Handicap title in 2006. Ronald shot 23 yards in that event and hit 99 of 100 targets. He also won many awards during his trap shooting years and also won the Ohio State Handicap Championship. Since childhood, Ronald was also fond of hunting. He enjoyed watching westerns, fishing and gardening, and spending time with his granddaughters and great-granddaughter. Ronald died at 11:57 a.m., Sunday, August 21, 2022, at his residence.

Ronald will be missed by his wife, Phyllis Ann (Mathews) Christman of Bennington, IN; his children, David Christman and his wife, Connie of Moorefield, IN, Melissa Alexander and her partner, Stan Sullivan of Moorefield, IN and Andy Christman and his wife, Teresa of Vevay, IN; his granddaughters, Lindsay Christman and her fiancé, Matt Becker and Hayley Christman and his partner, Bralen Harsin; his great-granddaughter, Presley Becker and soon to be great-granddaughter, Emerson Harsin; his brothers, Lloyd Christman and his wife, Deanna of Pleasant, IN and Eric Christman of Pleasant, IN; his sisters, Roxane Stewart of near Pleasant, IN and Arlene Chittenden of Lawrenceburg, IN; his nephews and nieces and his faithful dog, Dixie.

He was predeceased by his parents, Basil William and Agnes Maude (Herring) Christman; his son-in-law, Ronald Keith “Ronnie” Alexander; his nephew, Adam Roy Stewart and his brothers-in-law, Kevin Roy Stewart and Bob Chittenden.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. by the Reverend Lenny Thorpe at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Pleasant, Indiana.
