Indiana’s annual kickoff to the holiday season will return to in-person celebrations this year with the Lucy Donnelly Holiday Parade and events at IRMC Park.
The center of activity tonight will be IRMC Park, and event organizer Hastie Kinter said nearly 70 units are expected to participate in this year’s parade. She also spoke of the energy among the crew helping to organize the event that returns to downtown Indiana after a year-long hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Activities are slated to begin around 5:00 a.m. at IRMC Park in downtown Indiana with hay and train rides for kids, plus marshmallow roast and hot chocolate. At 5:30 p.m., the Indiana Junior High Pep Band will perform and at 6:00 p.m., the huge Christmas tree at IRMC Park will be lit up for the first time this holiday season. The parade will follow at 7:00 p.m.
Police will close Philadelphia Street at 4e to 13e Streets tonight from 5:30 p.m. Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl is asking everyone who comes down for the festivities tonight to be patient.
