ESPN Radio 1000 will officially be under new ownership as Good Karma Brands (GKB) prepares to purchase the Chicago-based sports radio station from the Walt Disney Company.
GKB will also purchase local affiliates from ESPN 1050 in New York (WEPN-AM) and ESPN 710 in Los Angeles (KSPN-AM). The three stations will remain affiliated and will continue to broadcast locally produced programming.
ESPN Radio 1000 is no stranger to Good Karma. The Milwaukee-based company entered into a Local Marketing Agreement (LMA) with the radio station in October 2019. The LMA allowed GKB to lease the radio station while assuming operational control. This new agreement will now give GKB full ownership.
The deal is subject to regulatory approvals, but GKB expects to close the deal in the first quarter of 2022. Good Karma also has ESPN Radio subsidiaries in Cleveland, Madison, Milwaukee and West Palm Beach.
