Christian Family Radio (CFR) was named Station of the Year 2021 by the Kentucky Broadcasters Association (KBA). At its annual Broadcasting Excellence Awards, broadcast on November 22, a total of 15 awards were presented in the radio, television and technology categories. CFR was also nominated for Best Morning Show, “Mornings with Derek and Bridget” was nominated for Best Morning Show.

The Station of the Year award recognizes a radio station for overall service to its audience with criteria based on public service and community engagement, entertainment values, thoroughness, production, promotions, interaction with listeners, digital, social and global broadcasting.

“This kind of recognition affirms our core value: that the media should strengthen our community, and if there was a time when the community needed to be stronger, it’s now,” says Bridget Kehrt-Groce, Executive Director of the CFR. “It’s exciting to be congratulated by colleagues across the country who are so grateful that a faith-based media receives this kind of recognition.”

Of 393 Kentucky-based radio stations, 97 are faith-based, according to the website

“KBA has amazing membership, so for our peers, valuing our work and standing out in this way is really a gift,” Kehrt-Groce shares.

CFR Director of Programming Derek Gregory said: “After 2020, like most nonprofits and organizations, we had to figure out how to do more with less staff, so we took the time to review our core mission and narrow our focus to doing less with more excellence. I’m incredibly proud of what we call “Team CFR” – our staff, donors, board members, volunteers and auditors – because it took them all to make a year like 2021 possible. everyone contributes in one way or another, this prize is not possible.

This designation is not the only accolade CFR has received this year, having been named one of the three finalists for Small Market Station of the Year by the national organization Christian Music Broadcasters.
